Idhika Paul to make television comeback in Mahalaya special

After establishing herself as one of the most sought-after actresses in Bengali cinema, Idhika Paul is set to return to television with a special appearance during this year’s Mahalaya celebrations.

According to multiple Indian media reports, including Anandabazar Patrika and Ei Samay, the actress will portray Goddess Durga in a Mahalaya special programme to be aired on a leading Bengali television channel.

Idhika began her career on the small screen before making her big-screen debut opposite Shakib Khan in the blockbuster “Priyotoma”. Since then, she has remained busy with film projects in both Bangladesh and India.

Reports suggest that following the release of “Projapoti 2”, Idhika has signed only one new film, directed by Srijit Mukherji, leaving her with time to return to television for the festive occasion.

Her appearance as Durga will see her join the long tradition of actresses portraying the goddess in Mahalaya broadcasts. Over the years, stars such as Indrani Haldar, Debashree Roy, and Koel Mallick have taken on the iconic role. Media reports also claim that Ditipriya Roy will portray the goddess in another Mahalaya programme on Sun Bangla, while actress Ankita Mallick is also expected to feature in a separate production.

News of Idhika’s television comeback has sparked discussion on social media, with many fans expressing excitement at the prospect of seeing the actress back on the small screen.

Idhika first gained recognition through Bengali television serials before making a successful transition to films. Her debut Bangladeshi film, “Priyotoma”, opposite Shakib Khan, was a major box-office success. She later reunited with the superstar in “Borbaad”, which also emerged as a blockbuster.

The actress also earned praise in West Bengal for her performance opposite Dev in “Khadaan”, another commercially successful release. Despite her growing commitments to cinema, her upcoming Mahalaya appearance marks a return to the medium that launched her career.
