Kaarina Kaisar’s brothers undergo tests for liver donation in Chennai
A new phase of treatment has begun for critically ill content creator and actor Kaarina Kaisar after she was flown to India for advanced medical care due to severe liver complications. She is currently undergoing treatment at the Christian Medical College (CMC) Hospital in Vellore, Chennai.
According to doctors, treatment for her lung complications is being prioritised before a liver transplant procedure can be carried out.
Kaarina was flown to Chennai by air ambulance at 11:00pm on Monday (May 11) from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. Her mother and two brothers accompanied her, confirmed her father and former national footballer Kaisar Hamid.
Speaking to Prothom Alo yesterday (May 12), Kaisar Hamid said, “Doctors there have already started treatment. Right now, they are trying to stabilise the lung complications first. After that, the liver operation will take place. Her blood pressure is under control, and her heart, kidneys, and other organs are functioning properly.”
Kaisar Hamid further said that doctors in Chennai informed the family that Kaarina had previously been administered a high dose of sedatives while undergoing treatment in Bangladesh. He added that doctors are now trying to gradually improve her physical condition and are also removing fluid accumulated in her lungs.
Preparations for Kaarina’s liver transplant have also begun. According to family sources, blood samples from both of her brothers have been tested, and one of them is expected to donate part of his liver.
“My younger son Sadat Hamid’s blood group matches Kaarina’s. However, blood samples from both of my sons have been taken,” Kaisar Hamid said.
Earlier on Sunday (May 10), Kaisar Hamid had said the family decided to take Kaarina abroad urgently after her condition deteriorated rapidly. He had also contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding visa arrangements.
“At that time, we felt we did not have much time left and wanted to take her abroad as quickly as possible,” he had said.
Family sources said Kaarina initially developed a fever before doctors later detected an infection. She was subsequently diagnosed with complications related to both Hepatitis A and E, which led to liver failure. As her condition worsened, she was admitted to the ICU and later placed on life support.
