Nusraat Faria exits Raihan Khan’s ‘Tribunal’

Actress Nusraat Faria has decided to step away from the upcoming courtroom drama “Tribunal”, directed by Raihan Khan.

The film is inspired by a real case under Bangladesh’s Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. Faria had joined the project last year and was set to play a barrister. However, she has now confirmed that she will no longer be part of the film.

“Raihan Khan is someone very close to me. We have spoken about it. I was supposed to play a lawyer in the film, but I am not doing it anymore,” Faria said.

“I have heard that there are some internal issues with the film. Because of this, it is no longer possible for me to remain involved with the project,” she added.

Faria also said that filming for her scenes had not yet begun. Most of the film had already been shot, but her scenes were still pending as they primarily involved courtroom sequences.

“I have heard that they have shot a large portion of the film, but my parts were still left. Since my scenes are courtroom-based, I had not started shooting them. Now it is no longer possible for me to continue with the film,” she said.

Earlier, Raihan Khan had said that around 65 per cent of “Tribunal” had been completed. The filmmaker had initially planned to finish the remaining shooting and post-production and release the film during Eid-ul-Fitr. However, production was delayed, with reports citing actress Tania Brishty’s illness as one of the factors affecting the schedule. 

The film features Tariq Anam Khan, Moushumi Hamid, Tania Brishty, Saira Akhter Jahan and others. Earlier reports had also identified Faria as playing a barrister who would represent the accused in the case. 

Meanwhile, Faria is nearing completion of her work on the web film “Lapatta”, directed by Mehedi Hassan. Recent reports said only a song sequence remained to be filmed, with the project expected to premiere on iScreen in October. 

The actress has also recently signed another film, “Lojja”, in which she will share the screen with Azmeri Haque Badhan. Directed by M H Khokon and jointly produced by Impress Telefilm and Jaaz Multimedia, the film is scheduled to begin shooting on September 20.
