Rozina returns to direction with ‘Ekhoni Shomoy’ after long hiatus

Veteran Bangladeshi actress Rozina has announced that shooting for her second directorial film will begin soon, three years after her previous film release.

Rozina is a celebrated figure in Bangladeshi cinema. She has worked in films for more than four decades and has acted in many popular movies. Her first directed film “Phire Dekha” was released on March 3, 2023, and received a positive response from audiences.

She said that she is now busy planning her second film, titled “Ekhoni Shomoy”. The story is written by noted filmmaker and writer Chatku Ahmed. Rozina said the film reflects contemporary life and will include themes of love, relationships, and social realities. She added that cinema is a reflection of life, though some cinematic elements will be included.

Rozina also expressed strong trust in Chatku Ahmed’s work. She said budget planning is currently her main focus, as it is an important part of filmmaking. If everything goes well, she hopes to begin shooting within this year.

The cast of the film has not been finalised yet. She mentioned that the project is still at an early stage. However, she confirmed that the film will carry a strong anti-dowry message. It will also highlight several important social issues. According to her, the story of this film will be deeper and more engaging than her previous work.

Today is also Rozina’s birthday. She shared that she celebrates the first moments of her birthday with her family by cutting a cake at midnight. Although she has some work during the day, she plans to spend the evening at home. She requested prayers from everyone for good health and strength to continue making meaningful films.

Rozina began her career in the late 1970s. In 1977, she signed the film “Rajmahal”, directed by F Kabir Chowdhury, where she starred opposite actor Wasim. The film was released in 1978 and became a superhit, marking a major turning point in her career. She later won National Film Awards for her performances in “Koshai”, “Jibondhara”, and “Dinkal”.
