Rupert Grint returns as Ron Weasley in 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child'

Rupert Grint is set to return to the wizarding world as Ron Weasley in the Broadway production of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”.

The actor, who played Harry Potter's best friend across all eight films in the original franchise from 2001 to 2011, will portray the adult version of Ron in the stage production.

The Broadway production announced Grint's return on social media, revealing that he will perform for a limited 17-week engagement, with performances beginning on February 2, 2027.

Grint's return comes nearly two decades after the “Harry Potter” film series began. “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” is set 19 years after the events of the original story and follows Harry, Ron and Hermione as adults, alongside their children.

Grint will join Tom Felton, who recently returned to the franchise as Draco Malfoy in the Broadway production. Felton originally portrayed the character across the eight “Harry Potter” films.

The two actors' Broadway appearances will give fans an opportunity to see two members of the original film cast return to their familiar characters, although their performance schedules have not been confirmed to overlap.

The stage play, written by Jack Thorne from an original story by Thorne, J K Rowling and John Tiffany, premiered in London's West End in 2016 before opening on Broadway in 2018.

Grint's return marks his latest appearance as Ron Weasley after more than 15 years since he last played the character on screen.

Tickets for Grint's engagement are expected to go on sale following a priority registration period through the production's official ticketing channels.
