Star Cineplex yet to receive movie content files of ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Masud Rana’

Before a film’s release, cinemas require a DCP (Digital Cinema Package) to ensure smooth and proper screening. If any technical issue is found within the file, a new DCP must be created, making the process both time-consuming and critical to release scheduling.

During the previous Eid season, Cineplex authorities faced challenges due to delayed deliveries and technical complications involving DCPs. Ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha releases, the country’s leading multiplex chain has once again raised concerns over similar disruptions.

So far, Star Cineplex has received the DCPs for "Roid", "Malik", "Pinik", and "Bonolota Sen". However, the DCPs for "Rockstar" and "Masud Rana" are yet to arrive.

Speaking to The Daily Star, Cineplex Media Manager Mesbah Ahmed said, “We faced this issue previously as well, which prevented us from publishing movie schedules on time. This time, we are encountering the same problem again. The makers of both ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Masud Rana’ informed us that they would send the DCPs soon, but we are yet to receive them. It’s really disheartening. Fans have been asking about show schedules, but unfortunately, we are unable to announce them.”

He explained that without receiving the DCPs, it is not possible to confirm showtimes or open advance ticket sales. Even after the files arrive, additional time is needed for technical checks and verification.

Mesbah further noted that delayed submissions from producers disrupt the entire operational workflow and emphasized that Cineplex should not be held responsible for complications caused by such delays.

Meanwhile, with around 120 cinema halls currently operating across the country, industry stakeholders believe that the simultaneous release of multiple films across a limited number of screens presents a significant competitive challenge and potential risk for the local film industry.
