Bangladeshi singer-composer Armeen Musa is set to perform in Shanghai on March 26 at the renowned live music venue The Pearl, with a special tribute planned for legendary folk artiste Abbasuddin Ahmed.

Known for its vibrant mix of live music, cabaret productions and international acts, The Pearl will host Musa as part of a culturally diverse musical evening. The event will begin with a solo piano performance by the artiste, followed by a collaborative set with the venue’s in-house band, The Pearl Red Stars.

As part of the programme, Musa will also present a tribute performance honouring Abbasuddin Ahmed, celebrating his contribution to Bengali folk music.

Speaking about the concert, Musa said she will perform a selection of her original songs in both English and Bangla. “I’m especially excited to present a tribute to Abbasuddin Ahmed before an international audience,” she said.

Musa has previously performed in countries including the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia, Malta and India. With this concert, China joins the list as she continues to bring Bangla music to global audiences.

The performance holds personal significance for the artiste as well. Her grandmother, renowned singer Ferdousi Rahman, toured China in 1966 and documented her experience in the book “Gaan Geye Elam Chine”.

Armeen Musa, widely recognised for blending Bengali music with fusion elements, is also noted as Bangladesh’s first Grammy-nominated composer. Her efforts to introduce Bangla music to international platforms were recently praised in an interview published by That’s Shanghai magazine.
