When the underworld forced Arijit to sing for free
Popular Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead on May 29, after reportedly being shot more than 30 times in his car. The 27-year-old musician was receiving death threats from the underworld.
The Indian police are still investigating this murder, which is being suspected as an inter-gang rivalry. Canada-based gangster Goldie Brar has meanwhile claimed responsibility for the murder.
The incident, which is sending shockwaves in Bollywood, is prompting other similar ones to resurface.
Arijit Singh also reportedly received death threats over the phone from underworld. Over the years, a lot of Bollywood stars have encountered similar threats.
Indian media is reporting that according Mumbai Mirror in 2015, Arijit had admitted that his manager had received phone call threats from Robbie Pujari, an underworld don, and demanded INR 5 Crore.
Initially, Arijit was unaware about the incident, until he got in a dispute regarding the budget of a show. The promoter, infuriated, complained to Robbie Pujari, who then forced Arijit to do many shows for free.
Sidhu Moose Wala had been receiving similar threats for many years, which ultimately led to his murder.
