Emraan Hashmi-starrer ‘Taskaree’ becomes Netflix’s no 1 non-English series
Emraan Hashmi’s series “Taskaree: The Smuggler Web” has created history on Netflix. The show has become the number one non-English series globally, making it the first Indian series to achieve this milestone.
According to Netflix’s official data platform Tudum, “Taskaree” topped the Global Non-English TV Shows list for the week of January 12–18. The series recorded 5.4 million views, surpassing several popular international shows.
The series beat Korean romantic comedy “Can This Love Be Translated?”, which stood at second place with 4 million views. It also performed better than hit titles like “Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3”, “Alpha Males”, and “The Queen of Flow”. No other Indian series featured in the top 10 list this week.
Reacting to the achievement, Emraan Hashmi said the success of “Taskaree” feels special because the story was made with honesty and respect for customs officers working at Indian airports. He added that seeing the show reach a global audience is deeply satisfying.
Creator Neeraj Pandey called the achievement an important moment for Indian storytelling. He said the success proves that stories rooted in Indian realities can connect with audiences worldwide when told with clarity and purpose.
Created by Neeraj Pandey and co-directed by Raghav Jairath, “Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web” follows the journey of Mumbai customs officers as they take on an international smuggling network. The series also stars Zoya Afroz, Amruta Khanvilkar, Sharad Kelkar, Nandish Singh Sandhu, and Anurag Sinha.
With its strong storyline and realistic setting, “Taskaree” has not only impressed Indian viewers but has also made a mark on the global stage.
