SAG’s Actor Awards: ‘Sinners’ wins top prize
“Sinners” emerged as the biggest winner at SAG’s 2026 Actor Awards on Sunday night, taking the top honour for best ensemble in a motion picture, while its star Michael B Jordan was named best lead actor.
The awards — previously known as the Screen Actors Guild Awards before being renamed last November — are presented by SAG-AFTRA and recognise outstanding performances in film and television.
On the film side, Jessie Buckley won best lead actress for her performance in “Hamnet”. Jordan was recognised for portraying twin bootleggers in “Sinners”, thanking fellow actors in an emotional speech for their continued support throughout his career.
Director Ryan Coogler made history as the first filmmaker to helm two best ensemble winners, having previously claimed the prize for 2018’s “Black Panther”. The ceremony is widely regarded as a key precursor to the Oscars, set for March 15.
Supporting actor awards went to Sean Penn for “One Battle After Another” and Amy Madigan for “Weapons”.
In television categories, “The Studio” led with three wins, including best ensemble in a comedy series, while “The Pitt” secured two awards, including best ensemble in a drama series. Seth Rogen won best lead actor in a comedy series, and Catherine O’Hara received a posthumous award for lead actress in a comedy series.
Keri Russell won best lead actress in a drama series for “The Diplomat”, while Noah Wyle was named best lead actor in a drama series for “The Pitt”. Michelle Williams and Owen Cooper took the limited series acting honours.
Harrison Ford received the Lifetime Achievement Award. The ceremony, hosted by Kristen Bell for the second consecutive year, also acknowledged global tensions, with SAG-AFTRA executive director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland expressing hopes for peace.
