Star Digital Report

Although water level in Jamuna river has increased, Sirajganj Water Development Board ruled out any chances of flood in the district as it is still flowing below the danger mark.

"Water levels continued to rise since August 13 -- increasing by 25 to 30 cm each day. The water level is expected to rise more in the next two or three days," said Md Nasir Uddin, sub-divisional engineer of Sirajganj WDB.

Talking to the Daily Star, Md Nasir Uddin said that Jamuna is flowing at 12.57 metre at Sirajganj hard point, which is 78 centimetre below the danger level.

At Kazipur point, the water is at 14.10 metre -- 115 centimeter below the danger mark, our Pabna correspondent reports quoting the WDB engineer.

The onslaught water from upstream combined with heavy downpour, have caused a quick rise in the water level in the Jamuna, Nasir said adding despite the increase of water, there is no immediate fear of flooding.
