Public suffering mounts as flood worsens in Faridpur
Flooding in Faridpur has worsened as Padma river's water levels at Goaland Point rose by 8centimeters in 24 hours till this morning.
Rising water levels affected 1,150 families from 13 villages in the Faridpur Sadar upazila's North Channel Union, 1,200 families from 12 villages in the Dikrirchar union, and 3,000 families from 16 villages in the Char Madhabdia union, reports our correspondent.
Mostakuzzaman, the chairman of North Channel Union, said erosion began in various parts of his union. The river washed away 18 acres of Shukur Ali Mridha's cropland in Dangi village, and three acres of Alimuddin Matubbar's cropland in Dangi village.
Faridpur Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Masum Reza said 1,000 packets of dry food, 400 packets of baby food, and 200 sacks (one sack for each cow) of cow feed have been allocated for the three flood-struck Sadar unions.
Further allocation requests have been sent to Dhaka, said the UNO adding that relief efforts will be boosted if funds are available.
