Two people died after showing Covid-19-like symptoms in Barguna and Patuakhali yesterday.

Among the dead is a 27-year-old man from KG School Road in Barguna town. He had been suffering from fever for the last few days, said family members.

On Sunday, he developed coughing and respiratory problems. He breathed his last at his home in Barguna town around 3:45am yesterday.

Family members alleged that they contacted officials of Barguna Sadar Upazila Health Complex and Barguna General Hospital for an ambulance to hospitalise their relative, but in vain.

The wife of the deceased fled the house after her husband's death. Later, other family members came to know that she reached her father's home in another upazila of the district.

Barguna Civil Surgeon Dr Humayun Shaheen Khan said the family members should have admitted the man to a hospital after noticing Covid-19-like symptoms in him.

He said samples from the body were collected for coronavirus testing.

Later in the day, the deceased was buried at a graveyard in the town.

In Patuakhali, a union parishad member died with novel coronavirus-like symptoms at his home in Galachipa upazila's Char Agostee village early yesterday.

The 65-year-old man, a member of Char Biswas Union under the same upazila, had been suffering from cold, fever and respiratory problems for a few days.

Monirul Islam, Galachipa upazila health and family planning officer, said samples from his body could not be collected as the elderly man was buried soon after his death.

He said they came to know about the man's death after his burial. The information came late as the man lived in a remote village which was isolated from the mainland.

Patuakhali Civil Surgeon Jahangir Alam said there were 22 Covid-19 patients in the districts until yesterday. Of them, five were undergoing treatment at an isolation unit in Patuakhali town.
