Panam in ruins
The government declared Panam Nagar an archeologically protected site in 2003 but it is yet to take any initiative for conservation of the century-old 52 buildings in Sonargaon of Narayanganj. Known as Haveli Sonargaon at the height of its glory, Panam has now crumbling relics of old buildings made of small bricks. Experts and archeologists say that if the government does not take a quick step to preserve the Panam Nagar, the former capital of Bengal will be ruined and lost forever. Photo: Anisur Rahman
