'Have to win every game'
It has been seen in the past that a defeat against archrivals India -- an all too common reality in ICC's global events -- had the effect of derailing Pakistan's campaign.
But it speaks to the strength and discipline of this Pakistan team that the defeat in the opening match of the ICC World Twenty20 Super 10s against India only strengthened their resolve, as they felled the mighty Australians in their next match.
Today, in the afternoon match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Mohammad Hafeez's team has the comparatively easy task of defeating Bangladesh and moving closer to a last four spot.
"The picture is very much clear in front of us. We have to win each and every game, but we will take it one at a time," said Hafeez at the pre-match press conference at the match venue yesterday. "We all know as a team that we can't make any mistakes. We are ready for tomorrow's game. In the last game [against Australia last Sunday], we pulled through a tough situation. Everyone showed great character, which helped us cross the line. It is a great sign for the team."
With India already qualifying for the semifinals after winning all their three matches so far and West Indies winning two out of three, the surest way for the second team to qualify would be to win three matches as well.
Pakistan's skipper remained bullish in his belief that their only focus is to win every match from this point, and that the net run-rates are not a consideration. "There will be nothing to do with the net run-rate. We have to win all the way through to the final, there's no second thought about it," said Hafeez.
Having played one match at night and one in the afternoon, Pakistan are in a good position to comment on the differing conditions from day to night in Mirpur. "It is slightly different between day and night here. It will be easier as a batting unit in the day game. The team has to do well in any condition."
