Scott McTominay has been diagnosed with a mild benign arrhythmia and will undergo heart surgery, with his Serie A return planned only after the next international window.

Napoli said in a medical note on Tuesday that the Scotland international has a heart rhythm disorder, where the heart can beat too fast, too slowly or irregularly. He will have an operation soon and is set to miss about a month and a half.

The 29-year-old has been a key figure for Napoli across the past two seasons, and was named Serie A’s best player in 2024-25.

McTominay started the Partenopei’s first two league matches in late August.

He is due to sit out three Serie A fixtures, including Saturday’s meeting with Inter Milan, plus Napoli’s Champions League opener against Arsenal on September 9.
