Groom fined for wedding reception amid strict lockdown

A groom in Manikganj was fined Tk 10,000 today for arranging a wedding reception, violating the strict lockdown, while the cooked food for the event was seized and distributed among children of the local orphanage.

Executive Magistrate Md Mostafizur Rahman of the Manikganj Deputy Commissioner's Office handed down the sentence after raiding Ujjal Hossain's house near Sarupai-Dhalai Jame Mosque in Manikganj Sadar Upazila this afternoon, reports our Manikganj correspondent.

"Based on the news of a ceremony, I conducted a mobile court raid on the house at 2:30 pm. There, I saw that food was arranged for about 120 people while people were eating," he said.

"In this situation, the groom Ujjal Hossain and his brother were found on the spot. I have fined the groom Tk 10,000 for disobeying government instructions during the lockdown. In addition, the cooked food has been confiscated and distributed among members of the state orphanage," he added.
