17 die from measles, measles-like symptoms in highest single-day toll

DGHS says the death toll since March 15 has risen to 311

The country has recorded its highest single-day deaths from measles and measles-like symptoms, with 17 fatalities reported in 24 hours (till 8:00am) today.

Previously, the highest single-day death toll was 12.

With the latest figures, the total number of deaths from measles and measles-like symptoms from March 15 has risen to 311, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Two confirmed measles deaths were reported in the 24-hour period, taking the total number of confirmed deaths to 52. The deaths were reported from Dhaka and Chattogram divisions, the DGHS said.

Meanwhile, 15 more suspected measles deaths were recorded during the period, bringing the total number of suspected deaths to 259.

Of the latest deaths, 11 were reported from Dhaka division and four from Chattogram division.

During the same period, 154 new confirmed cases were reported, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 5,467.

Additionally, the DGHS recorded 1,302 new suspected cases in 24 hours, bringing the total number of suspected cases to 41,793.
