India's 25 districts in 15 states, where Covid-19 cases were detected earlier, have contained the spread as there are no reports of new infections in the last 14 days, the country's health ministry said.

"This is a positive development," Health Ministry Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal said at a press briefing last evening.

He said 796 new Covid-19 cases and 35 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of infected people to 9,152 while deaths 308.

Agarwal also said a core strategy group on Covid-19 has been working on rapid and economical diagnostics as well as new drugs.

The government has enough stocks to conduct tests for up to six weeks and over two lakh samples have been tested so far, our New Delhi correspondent reports quoting the ministry.
