Top 5 apps for football updates

It has been a wonderful World Cup. Exciting matches, controversies, records, and more records, drama; all of the above and so much more. Remember this feeling. This excitement dies away for most people who only follow football during World Cup seasons. But if you start following football regularly, you can subscribe to this feeling all year round.

Remember how we say: there’s an app for that? Well, guess what, there’s an app to help you in your football fanatism. Actually, there are hundreds of those. But we have narrowed it down to five to help you on your journey.

Fotmob

Arguably the simplest and most user-friendly app on the list, Fotmob is very lightweight and runs smoothly on almost any device. No flashy graphics or unnecessary menu, just the important things on your dashboard: ‘Matches, News, Leagues, Following and More’.

The first time you start the app by selecting your favourite teams and players and after you make your selection, your home view will be decorated based on your choices. You can choose multiple teams and players. There is the choice to keep the notification option on for all events (i.e. goals, penalty, match reminder, transfer and many more) or mute them altogether, whichever suits you style.

Just a friendly advice, do not keep the Goal notification on. It ruins the surprise.

Goal

Goal is another lightweight app with sharp presentation that does the job well and provides you all the latest updates in football. Currently, there is a dedicated ‘World Cup’ option in the user interface which will give you all the information you need to know about the competition. In addition, tabs like ‘Matches’ will give you more information that you might have skipped.

There is also a ‘Game’ tab that hosts games like ‘Football Bingo’ to keep you occupied when you are bored. The footballing universe gets more analytical the deeper you get into it. So, brush up your football facts with these games. If you want something simple yet not absolutely watered down, this app could be your pick.

Sofascore

Sofascore has crispier visuals and includes a ‘Fantasy’ tab where one can play fantasy by signing in. Fantasy football is a whole different rabbit hole that gets you hooked easily.

It is one of the most popular apps out there. The quick links option offers a list of stats that hardcore fans will find helpful, but the overall presentation may appear to be a little congested for many people.

On the other hand, this app is not just for football, as it covers other sports as well such as Volleyball, Tennis, Basketbal, Motorsports, Handball, etc. Once you select your choice of sport, your homepage will be updated based on that. If you want ‘one app’ to know them all, then look no further.

Onefootball

As the app that consumes the most memory out of all the apps on this list, Onefootball offers pretty much the same features that all the other apps do. However, it offers a less cluttery visual interface that is easier on the eyes. The presentations are clean, vibrant, and well organised. If you like strong visuals, then you have hit the jackpot.

Only three tabs make it less overwhelming for the new fans. The home tab can be catered to your own need based on your preference of players, teams, and clubs. There is a TV tab that allows you to watch live matches but one has to spend money for that privilege.

Livescore

Livescore is another decent app for sports updates that ranks lower on the list because it takes more memory than the average sports-app and takes comparative more time to load. It’s not that this app is slow; it works great and serves the purpose, but other similar apps are a bit faster which is a big deal in this day and time.

The positive thing about this app is that it covers not only football but other sports as well, which might explain why it takes a little bit time to decorate the homepage. With a combination of sharp visuals and minimalist interface, Livescore can serve as a ‘one stop sporting hub’ for you.

Keep in mind that these apps will only provide you updates. Very rarely will they have the option for streaming, which is a whole different question. Like most football fans, if you enjoy being a ‘obsessive fan’ and knowing every last detail, these apps can give you a nice assist (Yes, pun intended).
