Old and new ‘fascist forces’ united to defeat ‘yes’ vote: Asif Mahmud

Speaking in Chattogram, NCP leader says 'yes' vote would safeguard gains of the July Uprising

National Citizen Party (NCP) spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain has said that “defeated fascist forces and new fascist forces” have reached a tacit unity to ensure the victory of the "no" vote in the upcoming referendum.

He made the remark while addressing a public rally in Boalkhali upazila of Chattogram, this noon, organised in support of the "yes" vote in the referendum and the 11-party alliance candidate.

“If elected, we may get the opportunity to serve you for the next five years. But if the ‘yes’ vote wins in the referendum, its benefits will not be limited to you or me. It will shape the future of your children and generations to come,” he added.

Asif alleged that the pattern of repression witnessed before August 5 -- marked by enforced disappearances, killings, and torture in prisons -- had resurfaced over the past 16 months following the July uprising.

“From villages to city alleys, extortion and terror have once again taken root,” he said, adding that voters must support candidates of the July Uprising alliance to break free from this chaos.

“Just give a seal on the ballot. That seal will safeguard the victory achieved in July,” he said.

He criticised parties that talk about reforms but fail to act when given the chance.

“On February 12, the 11‑party alliance will be elected and the unity of fascist forces will be defeated,” he declared.

The former adviser also spoke as the chief guest at a roadside meeting in Fultala bajar area in Boalkhali, in support of Chattogram-8 constituency candidate Jobairul hasan Arif.

The meeting was moderated by NCP Election Management Committee secretary Monira Sharmin, with participation from NCP Chattogram region organiser, Sagufta Bushra Misbah, Chattogram chief coordinator Advocate Tariqul Islam, among others.
