Rab arrests 3 murder accused mistakenly released from Mymensingh jail
A team of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab‑14) arrested three murder accused who were mistakenly released from Mymensingh Central Jail without a bail order.
Rab sources said the accused -- Anis Mia, Rashedul Islam, and Jakirul Islam -- were arrested from Ghatail in Tangail on Thursday night.
They were handed over to jail authorities this noon.
According to Md Samsuzzaman, company commander of Rab‑14 in Mymensingh, the three had been sent to jail on January 23 in connection with a murder case filed with Tarakanda Police Station, but were mistakenly released on January 27.
Md Aminul Islam, senior jail superintendent of Mymensingh Central Jail, confirmed that the release was wrongful.
He added that police and Rab‑14 were immediately informed to rearrest the trio.
Mohammad Touhidul Islam, deputy inspector general (DIG) of prisons for Mymensingh division, explained that the release occurred after a production warrant was mistakenly treated as a bail order.
Meanwhile, Zakaria Imtiaz, a deputy jailer of Mymensingh Central Jail, has been suspended in connection with the incident.
A three‑member probe committee was formed on Thursday to investigate the matter, and will submit its report within three working days.
DIG Touhidul said the committee will determine the exact cause and that legal action will be taken against those responsible.
