Rab detains key leader protesting NCT deal in Chattogram
Rab today detained Md Ibrahim Khokan, one of the two key coordinators of the Chattogram Bandar Rokkha Sangram Parishad, from the port area.
Khokan also serves as the general secretary of Chattogram Bandar Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal.
The Sangram Parishad, a platform of port employees and workers, has been protesting the government’s move to lease the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) of Chittagong Port to UAE‑based operator DP World.
With Khokan’s detention, six individuals have now been held in connection with the recent protests.
Confirming the development, Assistant Commissioner (Media) Aminur Rashid told The Daily Star that a Rab‑7 team detained Khokan and handed him over to Bandar police in connection with a case filed over the port protests and strike.
Earlier on Monday morning, police produced five other staff members of the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) before court after arresting them from different parts of the port area in connection with the same protests.
