Saraswati Puja celebrated at University of Oklahoma
The Hindu Student Association at the University of Oklahoma celebrated Saraswati Puja yesterday, bringing together students, families and community members from different religious and cultural backgrounds.
Himel Talukder, president of the Hindu Student Association, said the event reflected the organisation’s commitment to celebrating knowledge, culture, and inclusivity within the university community.
Sujon Sutradhar, general secretary of the association, said the participation of people from various faiths made the event a meaningful platform for dialogue and mutual understanding on campus.
“The presence of students and families from different religions reflected the inclusive spirit of the celebration,” he said.
The puja was conducted through the recitation of mantras by Binoy Debnath, a student at the University of Oklahoma.
Alongside the religious observance, the organisers arranged a drawing exhibition for children, highlighting their creativity and engagement with cultural themes.
Cultural programmes, including music, recitation and performances, were also held, adding to the festive atmosphere. Organisers said the activities were designed to engage families and introduce younger generations to cultural traditions in an interactive manner.
The event took place at the Walker Center Residence Hall Storm Shelter.
Tanmoy Palit, one of the organisers, said the celebration aimed to create an open and welcoming space where students and families could connect through shared cultural and educational values.
