Lawyer shot dead in Pirojpur

Criminals shot dead a lawyer at Kachuakathi under Kaukhali upazila of Pirojpur district yesterday. The deceased was identified as Advocate Giasuddin Khan Masud, 35, son of Bazlur Rahman Khan of Sangal village in Sarupkathi upazila of the district. Locals said a gang of two opened fire on Giasuddin while he was returning home after drawing money from Sonali Bank Kaukhali branch at about 12:30pm. Giasuddin was rushed to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead. Police arrested two people in connection with the killing. They are Kamrul Islam, local coordinator of Jubok, an NGO, and Hemayetuddin Shikdar, a clerk of local sub-registrar office. No case was lodged with Koukhali Police Station as of filing of this report at 6:00pm yesterday.
