2 housewives killed allegedly by husbands

Two women were brutally killed allegedly by their husbands in Meherpur and Kushtia on Monday night. In Meherpur, Zakir stabbed his wife Ismat Ara to death at Collegepara in the town at about 11:30pm. According to police, Zakir wanted to sell his father-in-law's property. But his wife Ismat Ara disagreed. On the night, they engaged in an altercation and at one stage, Zakir hit Ismat with a sharp weapon. Critically injured, she was rushed to Meherpur General Hospital where doctors declared her dead at about 2:30 am. Police arrested Zakir and his two relatives from his house in the morning. In Kushtia, a drug addict man beat his wife dead in Puro area of Bheramara upazila. Police said, Liton physically tortured Swapna at about 10:30pm when she protested his drug intake every night. On the night, Liton returned home fully drunk. Critically injured Swapna was taken to Bheramara Upaizla Health Complex where she died at about 12:30am. Separate cases were filed with concerned police stations.
