Rapist jailed for 64 years in Barisal

A court here on Wednesday sentenced one person to 64 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) for abduction and rape. He was also fined Tk 40,000, in default, to suffer one more year RI. Convict Selim Molla, 31, hailed from Chhoygao village under Hizla upazila of the district. Abul Hossain Bepari, judge of the women and children repression prevention court handed down the verdict on Wednesday afternoon after examining witnesses and evidences. According to the prosecution story, Selim Molla abducted and raped Rabeya Khatun, fiancee of his brother-in law Ferdous, on August 11, 2004. Selim fled away after leaving the victim in a health clinic in Namorhut of the area on August 24. Sadek Sardar, father of the victim lodged a case with Hizla police station on September 20.
