Local newsmen brought out a procession and held a rally in Thakurgaon town yesterday demanding exemplary punishment and arrest of those who assaulted a staff reporter of a local weekly on October 1. A group of youths assaulted Mahabur Alam Sohag, staff reporter of weekly Janarob, in front of Balaka Cinema Hall while he was returning home from his office at around 7:00pm. Sohag filed a case with Sadar Police Station on October 3 against 15 youths, including Ripon, Sakil, Setu, Biplob,Sohel, Nuru, Farid and Rafiq, of Hajipara area of the town. The speakers at the rally protested the attack on Sohag and demanded immediate arrest of the attackers. They alleged that police are not playing effective role in arresting the persons involved. Later, the newsmen submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner demanding arrest of the accused. The DC assured the newsmen of taking effective steps against the 'culprits'.
