Dockers at Ctg port go for 8-hour strike Oct 27

Dock workers' federation here yesterday decided to go for an eight-hour work abstention at Chittagong port on October 27. The decision was taken at a meeting held at Nimtola intersection in the afternoon. The work abstention aimed at realising the demands of the workers will take place from 8am to 4pm on the day. The demands included revival of abolished Dock Workers Management Board, reinstatement of the sacked workers, payment of dues of 287 stevedoring staff and revival of their welfare fund, placing the merchant workers under Clearing and Forwarding (C&F) agents. Federation president Golam Mohammad Chowdhury presided the meeting while general secretary advocate Mahfuzur Rahman Khan, Jatiya Sramik League's former vice-president Siraj Ullah, Chittagong City Sramik League president Bakhtiar Uddin Khan and general secretary Kazi Mahbubul Haq Chowdhury (Etli), Dock Sramik Union general secretary Abdul Ahad addressed. Before the meeting, they also burnt the effigy of former Shipping Adviser Major General (retd) Abdul Matin protesting the termination of workers and closure of welfare facilities.
