7 get life for murder in Kishoreganj

Seven people, including four brothers, were sentenced to life term imprisonment by a court here on Sunday for killing a man in 2005. The convicts are: Four brothers--Nitya Boishnab, 50, Jahar Boishnab,50, Jatish Boishnab, 50, and Ashta Boishnab, 46, of Sharifpur village in Ashtagram upazila--and their accomplices Shah Sadhan Boishnab, 22, Aradhan Boishnab, 25, and Ashim Boishnab, 21. Two of them -- Aradhan and Nitya -- were tried in absentia. The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more in jail. According to the prosecution, the convicts, as a sequel to enmity, swooped on the house of their neighbour Sukumar Das and stabbed his nephew Jayanta Das to death on August 30, 2005. After the incident, Sukumar filed a murder case. Police, on investigation, submitted charge sheet against 21 people. After examining the records and 27 witnesses, Judge SM Abdus Salam of the First Additional Sessions Judges' Court handed down the verdict, acquitting 14 others.
