Acid attack on schoolgirl in Sylhet, boy rescued in Gaibandha
A Dinapur court yesterday jailed one person for raping a teenage girl while two schoolgirls abducted in the district on October 12 still remain untraced.
In Sylhet, a schoolgirl was injured in acid attack on Monday and in Gaibandha, a four-year-old boy was rescued by police on Tuesday.
Our Correspondent from Dinapur reports: A Dinajpur court yesterday jailed a man for life and fined him Tk 20,000, in default, to suffer two more years in jail.
Sources said, Lutfar Rahman Litu, 25, son of Nurul Islam of village Shahapara under Biral upazila raped Shadia, 13, daughter of Md Shahidul Islam of the same village on June 25, 2001. Litu abducted the girl while she was returning from her school.
Meanwhile, police are yet to trace the whereabouts of two schoolgirls who were abducted in broad daylight while they were returning home from school on October 12.
The parents on October 13 filed two separate cases under Women and Children Repression and Prevention Act. Of the two hapless girls, Merina Akhter, 14, is daughter of Monsur Ali and Mallika Khatun, 15, is daughter of Md Muhammad of Dinajpur town.
Police said Sumon, 25, son of Md Shamsul Haque and his friend Alamgir Hossain, 20, son of Merazul Islam of Hathatpara in the town forcibly picked up the two girls on two motorbikes from Dinajpur Law College intersection on October 12 and hurriedly left the place.
Contacted, Md Shamim Iqbal, officer in-charge (OC) of Dinajpur police station said, police conducted several raids in Dinajpur and elsewhere in the country but could not rescue the schoolgirls.
UNB from Sylhet reports: A schoolgirl sustained burn injuries allegedly in an acid attack at Pathakhain village in Biswanath upazila Monday night.
Victim Fatema Begum, 15, was a student of a local high school and daughter of late Zafar Ali.
The girl later filed a case alleging that her cousins Mofik and Jalal hurled acid on her when she was reading in her room at about 9pm.
In Gaibandha, Palashbari police on Tuesday night rescued a four-year-old child from village Harinathpur under Palashbari upazila and arrested an alleged child lifter.
Police said, one Jalil abducted Rahim, 4, son of Ahmed Ali from Ganderia BRAC School in Dhaka at about 9:00am Monday. The abductor handed over the boy to his accomplice Abdul Ghani and asked him to take the boy to Gaibandha.
Accordingly, Ghani brought the boy to his village home at Harinathpur under Palashbari upazila. Being suspicious at the activities of Ghani, locals informed the matter to Palashbari police. Later, police arrested Ghani and rescued Rahim from his possession.
