Jubo League, Jubo Dal men sued on extortion charge

A Jubo League leader and 12 others have been sued on charge of extortion in Sunamganj. Abdus Sattar of Amria village under Biswambharpur upazila filed the case with Sunamganj Judicial Magistrate's Court yesterday against local Jubo League leader Nizam Uddin, Badaghat Union Jubo Dal President Oliur Rahman, Selim Uddin, Babul Miah, Ripon Miah, Abdus Sobhan, Porcha Miah, Bachchu Miah, Burhan Uddin, Ashu Miah, Alal and Abdul Quaiyum. In the case statement, the complainant stated that the accused on October 17 forcibly realised Tk. 1000 to 2000 from each of the boats carrying stones or sands from the Fazilpur stone and sand quarry in the bordering Tahirpur upazila. They also assaulted some boatmen as they refused to pay them toll, the complainant alleged. He further said the accused collect toll in the quarry with the help of some organised groups. The magistrate ordered the officer- in- charge (OC) of Tahirpur Police Station to investigate the case and take necessary actions.
