10 hurt as AL cadres attack villagers

At least 10 people were injured as ruling party cadres attacked villagers at Mridhakandi under Pachchar union of Shibchar upazila yesterday evening. Four critically injured were rushed to hospitals in Faridpur and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). Sources said, musclemen led by Awami League (AL) cadres Enayet Hawlader, Suman Miah, Shahjahan Miah and Bhasani attacked Abul Hossain Mridha, 50. They stabbed him inflicting serious injury on his person. Hearing his scream, locals came to his rescue. At this, the attackers got infuriated and injured Mizan Mridha, 65, Kohinoor Mridha, 22, Zafar Mridha, 32, Shahin Khan, 25, Masud Sarder, 33, Zobaer, 14, Dipu, 11, Aziz Mridha, 65, and Tara Mridha, 35, with knives. The injured were first admitted to Shibchar hospital. The attackers went to the hospital and beat them up for the second time there. Later, officer in-charge (OC) of Shibchar police station Abdul Jalil intervened and rescued the injured from the musclemen and sent them to hospitals in Faridpur and Dhaka. The attack was a sequel to previous enmity, locals and police said.
