Students agitate for principal's removal

Several hundreds students of Satkhira City College boycotted classes, brought out a procession and held a rally for the second consecutive day yesterday demanding removal of principal and vice-principal of the college for their alleged involvement in corruption, nepotism and embezzlement of fund. Earlier on Sunday, they locked the principal's office room and boycotted classes to press their demands. They also urged the National University authorities to remove the chairman of the college governing body on charge of sheltering 'corrupt people'. Students under the banner of general students body brought out a procession, paraded the college campus and staged a rally at the Shahid Minar premises yesterday. At the rally, they alleged that the principal and vice-principal misappropriated huge college fund during the rule of the BNP led four-party government. Contacted, Principal Emdadul Haque denied the allegations of corruption and said that the agitating students, mostly belonging to Bangladesh Chhatra League, locked his room and boycotted the classes only to malign him. Lawmaker M A Jabbar, chairman of the college governing body, also denied the allegations and said it was a 'conspiracy' against him.
