Cry Gaibandha traders while one to die for killing trader in N'ganj

Businessmen in Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha yesterday demanded arrest and capital punishment to killers of two traders while a court in Narayanganj awarded death penalty to a mugger and life to his four accomplices for killing a trader at Araihazar. Our Correspondent in Gaiabndha reports: Business community in Gobindagnaj upazila yesterday demanded arrest and death penalty to the killers of two local traders. Organised by Gobindaganj Chamber of Commerce, they formed an hour-long human chain on the Rangpur-Bogra highway to protest the killing. At a rally, they also demanded security to the lives of the traders in the area. Locals said, Mostafizur Rahman,37, a shoe trader of Rajmati market was picked up by a gang of criminals while returning home from market at 10:00 pm on October 1. Police recovered his body the next morning near Jhunjhunia bridge. In another incident, Mokhter Hossain,25, a cosmetics trader of Shova market was stabbed to death in his shop by one Raju Mia and his accomplices on August 8. Local traders protested both the killings and demanded punishment to the killers but police are yet to arrest the culprits. Our Correspondent in Narayanganj reports: A court here yesterday awarded death penalty to a mugger and life term imprisonment to four others for murder of cloth trader Idris Ali Bhuiyan in Araihazar. The court also fined each accused Tk 20,000, in default, to suffer one more year's rigorous imprisonment. Among the convicts, Zahirul Haque was awarded death penalty. The others are Masum Mollah, Rafiqul Islam, Masum Bhuiyan and Nabir Hossain. Cloth trader Idris Ali Bhuiyan was killed by the convicts in Bajdi area while he was returning with the cash collected from Kalibari Bazar at Araihazar on March 12 night in 1999. The muggers killed him with sharp weapons and snatched Tk 31,000.
