Police among four held for mugging

Sylhet Kotwali police on Monday night caught four people including a police constable on charge of looting cash and cell phones from a businessman in the city's Shahjalal Bridge area. They were sent to the jail hajat by a court on Tuesday afternoon as a case was filed against them. Police said, Sundar Ali, a businessman from Beanibazar upazila was waylaid by the gang near a bridge while coming to Sylhet city at about 8:30pm. The gang mugged Tk 84,000 and two mobile phones from Sundar and fled on an auto-rickshaw. The victim, however, noted down the auto-rickshaw number and informed the matter to police immediately. A police team from South Surma police outpost caught the four muggers and seized the vehicle at Lakhaura on the outskirts of the city just an hour after the incident. The arrestees are constable Habibur Rahman Habib of Sylhet district police line, Almas of Rainagar area, Suhel of Shahi Eidgah area and UK expatriate Mohsin of Mazumdari area. They were produced before the judicial magistrate's court on Tuesday which sent them to the jail hajat.
