Pen or sword?
The New-Age journalist FM Masud was tortured by some Rab officials(Rab-10) which is a hideous incident. What happened with this journalist is known to all through the newspapers.
This is very unfortunate that due to the activities of 'some' Rab officials , this whole security force is facing awkward questions. It is expected that the force which is in charge of the security of the country would be more polite and gentleman like. When will we learn that politeness makes one great?
People welcomed Rab when it had started its activities in the year 2004. Keeping some controversies aside, Rab proved its efficiency and earned praise from the general people. But we are shocked witnessing the 'power-exercise' over democracy: pen and people, which is not at all new in our country. We have come across several sporadic incidents of the same kind. The incident between Dhaka University students and some army personnel is still alive in our memory. Who was held responsible for initiating that or how it happened, we don't want to remember anymore.
If the Pen symbolizes democracy and the right to express opinion, then the Sword is the symbol of the promise to keep that democracy intact. We don't want to think of the sword as the means of tyranny and autocracy to gage the voice of the individual.
The hostility and conflict between these two should no longer exist. We need both the Pen and the Sword to work together with equal force to protect and preserve the 'Independence' that we earned almost 38 years ago.
