RU authorities blamed for failing to tame Shibir
Leaders and activists of left-leaning political organisations at Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday protested activities of Shibir including flexing of muscle at different halls and on the campus.
At a rally they said, Shibir is continuing its political activities at RU in the name of religious programmes. It has also gathered huge arms under the nose of the university authorities, they alleged.
Criticising the role of the university authorities, they said the RU has failed to tame or take action against the leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) who have been fighting for supremacy at different halls.
They said, students are facing at least two years' session jam as the authorities failed to control several unpleasant situations on the campus and closed the university for indefinite period following bloody clashes between BCL and Shibir.
The leaders demanded steps to ensure congenial atmosphere on the campus and revival of the central students' union (RUCSU), lying ineffective for the last 19 years.
They also criticised the university authorities for imposing indefinite restriction on rallies, processions and political activities of the student bodies on the campus.
