Two factions of Magura BNP are going to hold the conference of Sadar upazila and municipality units separately amid mounting conflict. District Joint Convener advocate Mokaddes Hossain led faction will hold the conference of upazila and municipality units at Syed Ator Ali Public Library auditorium today while Convener Kabir Murad led faction fixed November 23 and 24 for the conference of the two units, according to our correspondent. Meanwhile, local administration yesterday imposed Section 144 in and around Mulghar High School ground under Fakirhat upazila of Bagerhat district as two rival factions of BNP called conference there at the same time. Joint Convener of Magura municipality unit Khan Hasan Imam Suja who belongs to the faction led by advocate Mokaddes Hossain said, “As Kabir Murad and his loyalists are forming 'pocket committees' in upazila, municipality and ward units, we are going to hold council of these units through democratic process”. Talking to this correspondent about holding a separate conference by his rivals, Magura municipality unit Convener Abdur Gafur who belongs to the faction led by Kabir Murad said, “According to party constitution, only the convener of the unit concerned can organise its conference”. Internal conflict in Magura BNP surfaced after formation of the district unit with Kabir Murad as convener in June this year. Rival party men of the district unit at an extended meeting at party office in the town on October 24 accused Kabir Murad of forming “pocket committees at upazila and union levels. They also declared him 'unwanted' in the district. In Bagerhat, Fakirhat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Khan Aslam Hossain imposed Section 144 in and around Mulghar High School ground as two factions of local BNP--one led by Shafiqul Islam Karim and the other by Khan Anwar Hossain--called upazila unit conference on the ground at 3:00pm yesterday, reports UNB.
