BNP factions hold councils separately

A faction of Magura BNP, led by district Joint Convener advocate Mokaddes Hossain, yesterday held councils of Sadar upazila and municipality units while the other faction led by Convener Kabir Murad fixed November 23 and 24 for councils of the two units. Joint Convener advocate Mokaddes Hossain, district BNP leaders Mohammad Nazimuddin, Aminul Islam Chandu Mian, Munshi Ali Tarek, Faruk Ahmed Babul, Khan Hasan Imam Suja, advocate Alauddin Ahmed, Akhter Hossain, Shahed Hasan and Kutubuddin addressed the councils, according to our correspondent. Meanwhile, two factions of Sirajganj BNP--one led by municipality Mayor TRM Nur e Alam Helal and the other by former state minister and Sirajganj BNP Convener Iqbal Hassan Mahmud Tuku--are going to hold the conference of the district unit at separate venues in the town today, reports our correspondent. In Magura, Mokaddes Hossain-led faction formed a 71-member full-fledged committee of Sadar upazila unit at the conference with advocate Sakhawat Hossain as president and Shahed Hasan as general secretary. The municipality committee was formed with Hasan Imam Suja and Faruk Ahmed Babul as president and general secretary. Internal feud in Magura BNP surfaced after formation of the district unit in June this year with Kabir Murad as convener. Rival party men of the district unit at an extended meeting at party office in the town on October 24 accused Kabir Murad of forming “pocket committees” at upazila and union levels. They also declared him 'unwanted' in the district. In Sirajganj, the councillors belonging to Iqbal Hasan Mahmud held a meeting at a restaurant in the town on Tuesday and formed a committee of the district unit. They made Iqbal Hassan Mahmud president and advocate Mokaddes Ali and Azizur Rahman Dulal secretary and organising secretary of the district committee. The meeting decided to announce the full-fledged committee at today's conference. In Narayanganj, a faction of Sonargaon upazila BNP backed by former state minister Rezaul Karim held conference at a house at Kanchpur Tuesday afternoon. Another faction led by upazila BNP convener Khandaker Abu Zafar will hold its conference on November 20.
