Girl burnt to death; shops, godowns gutted
A three-year-old girl was burnt to death in a fire in Madaripur district while 24 shops and four godowns were gutted in Brahmanbaria and Chittagong yesterday.
According to a Madaripur Correspondent, Sadia, 3, was bunt to death in a fire yesterday at Shirkhara Charghunchi Mridhakandi village. Four houses were also gutted damaging property worth Tk 3 lakh.
Sources said, the fire originated from the kitchen of one Harun Mridha in the afternoon. In no time, four houses including dwelling houses of Harun Mridha and his brother Abul Mridha were gutted in the fire, they said.
Harun Mridha's daughter Sadia who was inside the house was burnt to death.
Our Correspondent in Brahmanbaria reports: At least 24 shops were gutted in a devastating fire at Nasirpur Bazar under Nasirnagar upazila yesterday afternoon.
According to the fire fighters, the fire originated from a short circuit in a workshop and engulfed 23 other adjacent shops in the market.
According to preliminary estimate, the fire damaged property worth about Tk one crore.
Our Staff Correspondent in Chittagong reports: A huge quantity of goods including imported baby food, chemical, fertiliser and other items were gutted here in the port city yesterday in a fire at a private firm's four storehouses.
The fire originated at a storehouse of Manik Enterprise at Majhirghat area under Double Mooring police station around 1:00am.
The fire spread fast to the three adjoining storehouses of Nur Trading Corporation, Shah Sweet Trading and Yasir Enterprise.
Thirteen fire fighting units from the city's different fire stations rushed to the spot and managed to douse the blaze around 4:00am but could not find out the reason behind the fire.
The estimated loss was Tk 1 crore, claimed owners.
