Ban on plying of goods laden trucks due to Eid
Plying of goods laden truck on Daulatdia-Paturia river route has been banned to lessen traffic jam ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
However, truck carrying sacrificial animals and perishable commodities will remain outside the purview of the restriction and these vehicles to get priority in crossing the route.
The ban took effect from Tuesday night and it will remain in force till Friday midnight. The ban will be effective for another three days from Saturday midnight, said BIWTC sources.
This was decided at a meeting at Paturia ferry terminal last week.
Officials and representatives of BIWTC, BIWTA, district administration, launch owners' association and truck owners-workers federation attended the meeting.
A BIWTC official said, the decision to ban plying of goods laden trucks was taken for smooth homebound journey of people of south-western region through the river route on the occasion of the Eid festival.
Another report from Goalunda adds: Khaled Newaz, assistant deputy general manager of BIWTC's Daulatdia office, said a proposal will be submitted to shipping ministry for constructing a by-pass road from truck terminal to ferry ghat at Daulatdia for reducing traffic jam.
