Hearing of sedition case against 34 BDR men on Jan 31

A Kurigram court yesterday fixed January 31, 2010 for hearing on the sedition case against 34 members of 27 Rifles Battalion. Court sources said 34 BDR members arrested on sedition charge were produced in the District and Sessions Judge's Court at noon. The court fixed the hearing date and sent the BDR men to jail. A group of lawyers stood on behalf of the BDR members while Public Prosecutor (PP) advocate SM Abraham Lincoln for the state, reports our correspondent. In Chapainawabganj, Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court yesterday deferred the charge framing against 30 BDR men to January 14, 2010. Judge Arup Kumar Goswami deferred the date as the prosecution lawyer prayed for extension of time. The court rejected the bail prayers of the BDR men of 39 Rifles Battalion and sent them to jail, according to our correspondent. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station Ahsanul Haque filed a sedition case on May 17 against the 30 BDR men for their 'involvement' in February 25-26 mutiny at their battalion headquarters in Chapainawabganj.
