DST
I congratulate Syed Badrul Ahsan for his excellent article under the caption "Darkness at dawn" (The DS, 18 November, 09). Scores of letters have already been written for and against this imposed arrangement of time on the pretext of 'Day Light Saving'.
Mr. Ahsan has articulately put everyone's thinking, opinions and, difficulties to follow this time management in one single write-up and for this he deserves all the credit. Initially, most of the people accepted DST with good grace when the govt. declared that with effect from 1st October 09, the arrangement of one hour advancement of time would be revoked and old timing would be restored up to 1st August, 2010.Trouble started when the govt. backed out from its previous decision.
The govt. did not take into account the winter when day light is less than that of summer resulting in insurmountable sufferings, especially of the school going children.
The writer has given enough logic and reasons along with impediments and I do not have anything to add.
I only hope that the authorities, particularly that unnamed adviser whom the writer has referred to in his article, will pay heed to the content of the article and give realistic advice to the decision makers, suitable for our country and not for America.

I really cannot understand the confusion with DST. The summer is over and winter is here. Even at 7:00am it feels like midnight. Load-shedding seems to have returned like before. The whole world has gone back one hour. So why can't we keep up with the rest of the world and do the same?
