Stern action if any dealer sells fake fertiliser

The government will take stern action against the dealers found selling adulterated fertilisers and insecticides to the farmers, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury warned yesterday.
The government has taken steps to help the farmers boost production to ensure food security in the country, said the minister while addressing a review meeting with agriculture officers of greater Mymen-singh at local LGED auditorium.
No government officials, found involved in irregularities, would be spared, the minister warned. She stressed the need for proper monitoring to ensure smooth supply of fertiliser and irrigation during the coming boro season.
It is a great challenge for us to ensure food security for the growing population as the country is losing its cultivable land every year to new human settlements and other infrastructures development, the minister said, adding: 'We have to face this challenge with sincerity and hard work.”
She urged the agriculture officials, researchers and scientists to work together to make the government's initiative to boost food production a success.
Chaired by Deputy Commissioner AN Sham-suddin Azad Chowdhury, the meeting was also addressed by Director General of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Md Sayeed Ali, Chairman of BADC (in-charge) Dr Dil Afroz Haque and Secretary of the Agriculture Ministry CQK Mushtaq Ahmed.
