10 robbers held in Sylhet, Rangpur

At least ten robbers were arrested on Thursday and Friday in Sylhet and Rangpur districts. Eight robbers of an inter-district gang were arrested along with a microbus on Sylhet-Saluticar-Goainghat road on Thursday night while they were fleeing after looting cash and a mobile phone from a trader, reports UNB. The arrestees are Uzzal, 22, of Moulvibazar district, Ahmad Ali Rubel, 19, Jahangir Alam, 18, and Saddam, 18, of Habiganj district, Anwar Hossain Manik, 18, and Sajidul Islam, 19, of Sunamganj district, Mostafa, 22, of Sylhet city and Mamun Hossain, 20, of Goainghat upazila. Police said, the gang, coming by a microbus intercepted businessman Amir Uddin while he was returning home at Noagaon village in Goainghat upazila from a local bazaar. They looted Tk 20,000 and a mobile phone set from him. Hearing his cry for help, locals called police. Later, police put barricade on the road and arrested the eight along with the booties. They also recovered three sharp weapons from the microbus. In another incident on Friday, a house owner was injured and a robber was held at a house in Sylhet city's Lamabazar Chayataru area. The arrested robber was identified as M Zafor, son of Abdul Jalil of Rangapur village in Balaganj upazila. Sources said, a gang of dacoits numbering 4/5 swooped on Hazi Aroz Ali's house breaking open the door at about 4am and looted valuables, including cash and three tolas of gold ornaments, taking Aroz hostage at gunpoint. During the robbery, Aroz was alone in the house. The robbers stabbed the house owner indiscriminately as he tried to resist them, leaving him seriously injured. Hearing his screams, locals rushed to the spot and caught fleeing Zafor and handed him over to police. In Rangpur, a police team on Friday arrested an absconding leader of inter-district gang of robbers who is accused in dozens of robberies and other criminal cases. Rayhan Dakat, 30, is son of Shafiul of village Mithipur Panbazar under Pirganj upazila. The arrestee was sent to the jail hajat after Pirganj police produced him before a Rangpur court, according to a BSS report.
