<i>'I want to see war criminals tried before my death'</i>

Valiant freedom fighter Taramon Bibi Bir Protik has said freedom fighters will continue to suffer disgrace until war criminals are tried. "I want to see the trial of war criminals before my death," she said in her speech as the chief guest at a meeting at bijoy mela (victory fair) on Hasan Ali Government High School ground Saturday night. "I took part in the Liberation War out of love for the soil and people of the country, not to get anything. But the freedom fighters are neglected now. I want to see that that the heroic sons of the soil remain well. "Razakars and Al-Badrs against whom we fought now live in multi-storied buildings and use costly cars while many of the freedom fighters are passing days amid hardship. I and other freedom fighters cannot accept it," Taramon Bibi said. She recalled different events during the 1971 Liberation War. In the beginning of the function, a Liberation War-based drama on the life of Taramon Bibi was staged. A woman from Chandpur, Mukta Rahman played the role of Taramon. Former additional director general of health directorate Dr Syeda Badrun Nahar Chowdhury, also a freedom fighter, presided over the function. Noted writer and journalist Kazi Rafique, freedom fighter Abdul Hye Sarker, chairman of the Victory Fair Observation Committee Zahirul Islam, secretary general Salim Ullah Selim, women leaders Prof Masuda Noor Khan and Shahin Sultana Fancy spoke, among others.
