Armed robbers loot houses
Robbers looted house of an expatriate in Sylhet early Thursday and looted two more in Keraniganj and Madaripur on Saturday.
An armed gang took away valuables worth Tk 11 lakh from a London expatriate's house at Kuchai village in Dakkhin Surma upazila in Sylhet, according to UNB.
Police said, masked robbers, numbering 7-8, stormed into the house of Shoaibur Rahman at about 2:30am and took the house inmates hostage at gun-point.
Later, they decamped with the booties, including Tk 2 lakh in cash, 2,000 pound sterling, 20 tolas of gold ornaments, mobile phone sets and valuable clothes.
Nurnnesa Khanam, wife of Shoaib, filed a case with Dakkhin Surma police station.
Later, police detained Hossain Ahmed Rubel, 20, son of Atar Ali, Nazrul Islam, 30, son of Moyna Miah and Tuhin, 22, son of Ostar Ali of the village suspecting their involvement in the robbery.
Another report says, armed robbers looted gold ornaments and other valuables from the house of a contractor at Ekuria Muslimnagar under Dakkhin Keraniganj police station early Saturday.
Police said, a gang numbering 12-14 stormed into the house of Alam, a contractor of the Roads and Highways Department, breaking open the collapsible gate at about 3:00am.
They took the house inmates hostage at gunpoint and looted gold ornaments, Tk 50,000 in cash, six mobile phone sets and other valuables worth Tk 5.5 lakh.
They also grievously stabbed Anisur Rahman, brother of Alam as he raised a hue and cry for help.
In Madaripur, a gang of armed robbers looted valuables worth about Tk 10 lakh from a house at Koyria launch ghat in Kalkini upazila early Saturday.
Police and locals said, the gang numbering 10/12, entered the house of Mosharraf Fakir breaking open the door at about 3:00am and looted valuables including 28 tola gold ornaments, mobile phone sets, Tk 82,000 in cash and other valuables.
Our Correspondent in Bandarban reports: An ambulance was robbed on Chiringa-Lama road on Saturday morning.
Civil surgeon Dr Safar Raj Khan Chowdhury said, the robbers attacked the ambulance on the way to Lama Upazila Health Complex at around 5:30 am.
The gun-trotting robbers forced the ambulance driver to stop the vehicle at Fashiakhali and looted Tk 7,000, a cell phone and a sucking machine used for clearing cough from throats of patients.
