Flawed maps

Siraj Haque, Houston, Texas, USA
This is in reference to Prof. Sufi's letter on Flawed Maps (DS 11/9/07) on sale all over Bangladesh. My experience is similar to those of Prof. Sufi. I also started travelling around Bangladesh equipped with maps published by different publishers, My dependence on these maps promptly got me hopelessly lost. After a long thought I am convinced that Flawed Maps are nothing but Adulterated Maps, much like adulterated foods. It is one way of making quick money in Bangladesh by selling substandard products which does not surprise me. As for endorsement by "famed" academicians, could it also be for money? Shame on these greedy academicians! I don't know who should be entrusted with publishing a flawless road map of Bangladesh, but, I am sure whoever does come up with such a map will make big profit. The publishers of a map should collect a few sample maps from Europe and America before starting such a project. Even proper folding of a large map is not very easy.
