On 14.12.09, I read in your daily a column on Open and Distance Learning written by Dr Manzurul Islam. That was good writing. I also think that this method of learning should be accepted by the govt and people. I have visited several websites of universities teaching with this method. I think this service responsibility should be distributed to the private organisations. One more public Open University and at least one private Open University should be allowed to introduce this system as early as possible.
The author is justified in his opinion that opening a public Open University will be time consuming. So one or more private Open Universities can be encouraged to start, first by the professionals and academics, experienced in the ODL method. Distance education can spread the renowned teachers' lectures to the remote corners by video conferencing, audio conferencing. Classes are more interactive and interesting in this way. So, proper technology based distance education is very much necessary in Bangladesh at present.
Let the present people's government take it up seriously and see that actual implementation takes place before long.
